We're happy to announce on a new bookstore that is collaborating with Eco-Libris - Beetroot Books, the first bookstore we're working with in the UK!
This unique online bookstore is joining Eco-Libris bookstores program and will offer the store's customers the opportunity to plant a tree for every book they buy there and receive our "One tree planted for this book" sticker with their new book!
Why buying books with Beetroot Books (besides the fact they're partnering with us)? Here are some convincing reasons that will also help you to get to know them better: They specialize in titles that enable you to think, act, learn, challenge, enjoy. They’re a one stop shop for everything sustainable, alternative, green and active – for all ages. Also, every one of their books is hand-picked – if you need advice or recommendations about any of our books or subjects we’ll be willing, able and happy to help you.
They stock and promote titles from independent publishers and unpublished writers. They also donate £1 for every gardening book sold to disability charity and £1 for every children’s book sold to child literacy charitySpringboard for Children. Last but not least, Beetroot Books is powered 100% by renewable energy.
Bottom line: Beetroot Books is different from corporate stores - While corporate stores care what they sell, Beetroot care on how they sell. they offer you the best prices but won’t exploit in order to do so.
The store was opened in January 2011 and now customers at Boneshaker Books can plant a tree for every book they buy there and receive Eco-Libris "One tree planted for this book" sticker (made of recycled paper) at the counter!

Another great bookstore in Minneapolis that is on our bookstore program is Eye of Horus, the metaphysical store, Mythic Art Gallery and Labyrinth nested between the Wedge and Uptown areas of South Minneapolis.
The article is describing the difficulties Subterranean Books and the other bookstores are dealing with and the way they try to organize together to find ways to thrive in this difficult environment.
Unfortunately, the difficulty environment is not unique just to St. Louis, MI, but is (almost) everywhere when it comes to bookstores, independent ones as well the big chains. Therefore this article on the Riverfront Times can be seen as a unique and frank picture of bookstores in general, especially indie ones. Beyond that, it is showing the value of a cooperative effort to solve problems, and the unique spirit of bookstore owners that might be their best weapon in the war on their future.
This is a long article, but if you're a book lover, it worth every minute of your time! You can find it at http://alturl.com/k368j.
Subterranean Books is taking part in our bookstore program, which means that customers at the store can plant a tree for every book they buy there and receive our sticker at the counter!
