The Reactions of Acids and Bases: Kinds of Acid-Base Reaction

Reaction between acid solution and base solution can produce salt and water. Acid-base reaction is called neutralization reaction because acid and base compounds reacting neutralize each other. Acid-base reaction can also produce salt, so that acid-base reaction is called salting reaction.

There are examples of acid-base reaction

  1. Reaction of Strong Acid and Strong Base

    HCl + NaOHNaCl + H2O

  2. Reaction of Strong Acid and Weak Base

    HCl + NH4OHNH4Cl +H2O

  3. Reaction of Weak Acid and Strong Base

    CH3COOH + NaOHCH3COONa + H2O

  4. Reaction of Weak Acid and Weak Base

    CH3COOH + NH4OHCH3COONH4 + H2O
